United States striker Michelle Akers wore this blue Adidas warm up suit during the 1991 FIFA Women’s World Cup in China. This was FIFA’s inaugural Women’s World Cup competition, with the United States entering the tournament heavy favorites to win. Akers was the architect of the USWNT’s run to the finals, scoring eight goals in the run-up to the championship against Norway. In the finals, Akers scored both of the USA goals to drive the Stars and Stripes to an iconic 2-1 win over Norway. With 10 goals, Akers finished as the tournament Golden Boot winner, and was named the Silver Ball winnner as the second-best player of the tournament, behind her teammate Carin Jennings.
This offered Adidas warm up suit features a blue zip-up jacket and blue long pants. The jacket has “US Women’s National Team” and “Adidas” embroidered on the chest, while white-red-white stripes accent both sides of the jacket. Three white Adidas stripes are located on both sleeves. Akers has signed the jacket in black marker, inscribing “91 World Cup Champions / Golden Boot Winner” in addition to her signature. The blue pants have “Adidas” embroidered in white on the left leg. Akers has signed the right leg in black marker, inscribing “91 WC Champs” below her signature. These pants and jacket come with a LOA from Michelle Akers. A portion of the proceeds shall benefit the Michelle Akers Horse Rescue and Outreach Inc.
