Behind the talents of a 17-year old center forward named Pele, Brazil stormed to the 1958 FIFA World Cup title in Sweden. Pele did not make his World Cup debut until Brazil’s final group stage game, but his performance in the knockout rounds is the stuff of legends. The Santos legend scored the only goal of Brazil’s 1-0 win over Wales in the first knockout round before scoring a hat trick in Brazil’s 5-2 semifinal win over Golden Boot winner Just Fontaine and France. It was Brazil against Sweden in the Finals, held just outside Stockholm, with Pele grabbing a brace in Brazil’s 5-2 victory to clinch their first World Cup title. Pele was named the Golden Ball winner, and this tournament saw the emergence of Garrincha on the international stage after the skillful winger assisted on Brazil’s first two goals of the Final.
Offered in this lot is a 1958 FIFA World Cup Brazil 4 ¼-inch high staff trophy with a 2 ¼-inch diameter base originating from Garranchia's Daughter.
