The 1970 iteration of the Brazil National Soccer Team is widely and rightfully regarded as the best international side in the history of men’s soccer. Led by the transcendent Pele and captained by the stalwart left back Carlos Alberto, Brazil ran roughshod over the field, capping off their historic run with a decisive 4-1 victory over Italy in the final match at the monumental Estadio Azteca in Mexico City. Brazil’s XI was composed of a host of all-time greats, including Jairzinho, who scored in every match of the World Cup, and the ethereal Rivellino, an idol of the Argentine great Diego Armando Maradona. This victory gave Brazil their third World Cup title after successes in 1958 and 1962, allowing the South American titans permanent possession of the Jules Rimet Trophy.

Offered in this lot is a 1970 FIFA World Cup Champions Jules Rimet Trophy originally presented to Ricardo Teixeira, the president of the Brazilian Football Confederation. The trophy depicts the goddess Nike atop a cylindrical plinth bearing a plaque. Etched in high-relief on the plaque is “Brasil 1930 1970 Tri Campeao Mundial”, “Brasil 4 Italia 1”, “Brasil 3 Uruguai 1”, “Brasil 4 Tcheco [Czechoslovakia] 1”, “Brasil 1 x 0 Inglaterra”, “Brasil 3 x 2 Romenia”, and “Brasil 4 x 2 Peru” to recap Brazil’s road to the title. This iconic and historic trophy is accompanied by a LOA from Alexandre Silva da Silveira, a CBF employee.
