After finally losing to the Brooklyn Dodgers in the 1955 World series, the 1956 squad returned with a vengeance as they cruised to the American League pennant with a 97-57 record – nine games ahead of the second-place Chicago White Sox. The Yankees faced the Dodgers again in the World Series and this time the Bronx Bombers bested Brooklyn in seven games, including the historic perfect game thrown by Don Larsen in Game 5.
30 members of the 1956 World Champion New York Yankees have signed this Official American League William Harridge stamped baseball. Hall of Famers Yogi Berra and Mickey Mantle have signed their names in bold blue pen across the sweet spot. The east panel has the signatures of Bob Turley, Tom Carroll, Rip Coleman (signed “Gary Coleman), Bob Turley, Tommy Byrne and Andy Carey. The west panel includes Hank Bauer, Elston Howard, Billy Martin and Hall of Famer Whitey Ford (signed “Ed Ford”). Also inscribed in blue pen on the west panel on the Reach stamp is “MEL”. The north panel has the signatures of an unidentified player, Charlie Silvera, Bob Grim, Bill Skowron, Tom Morgan and Norm Siebern. The south panel has the signatures of Bill Hunter, Ralph Terry, Tom Sturdivant, Don Larsen, Hall of Famer Phil Rizzuto, Joe Collins and an unidentified player.
