Issued in 1990 for The President of the United States, George Bush, these cards picture the President in his Yale University baseball uniform. Bush 41 was captain for the Yale nine, was a left-handed hitting first baseman that played in the first two College World Series tournaments. This card was issued by Topps for the President, and was supposedly limited to 100 copies. The amount of cards was never officially verified, and like any limited issue some cards made it out of the “back door.”
There were the Bush cards actually given to the President by TOPPS CEO Arthur Shorin, and then there are the cards which made it out of the factory. These are the ones seen on the collector’s marketplace. The cards given to President Bush include a heavy sheet of gloss, distinguishing those examples from the ones which escaped the Topps factory.
This example is graded by PSA NM-MT 8, showing very little wear. This is a great example of one of Topps’ scarcest cards. PSA Graded NM-MT 8.
