Though better known as the Hall of Fame quarterback, John Elway was once a promising baseball player. Drafted by the Kansas City Royals in 1979, Elway chose to attend Stanford and delayed entering pro baseball until 1982. Now property of the Yankees (who shelled out $100,000 for his contract), Elway played 42 games for the Single A Oneonta Yankees in 1982, batting .318 with 4 homers and 25 RBI. Despite George Steinbrenner bragging that he would be the Yanks right fielder by 1985, Elway chose the NFL and the rest is history. This canceled check for $7.00 was issued to John Elway from the Oneonta ball club and is one of the only remaining pieces of his promising baseball career. Encapsulated Authentic by PSA/DNA.
