Martial artist and movie icon Bruce Lee’s career was like a meteor, burning blinding bright and lasting far too short. In a brief eight-year career before his death in 1973 at age 32, Lee left a legacy of five classic movies and a legion of dedicated fans. This signed check dates from Bruce Lee’s first days in Hollywood when he was “Kato” in the TV series “Green Hornet”. Written on 5/24 1966, the $50.00 check is made out to Don Karnes (part-owner of Lee’s Los Angeles apartment building) and bears the usual cancellation perforations and bank stamps, none of which affects the bold blue ballpoint signature. Any Bruce Lee signature is exceedingly scarce, but this one’s even more extraordinary because of it being from the earliest part of his short career. PSA/DNA has encapsulated the check and graded it MINT 9. Included with the check is a 2 1/2” x 3 1/8” publicity still of the actor in costume as “Kato” and photocopied article mentioning Dan Karnes’ relationship with the actor.
