Offered is an illustrated wood cigar box promoting the Green Bay Base Ball Club, circa the 1890s. The 2½ x 5 x 8½ -inch wooden box has a top with an engraved in black legend “G.B.B.B.C.” in black in a laurel wreath motif. There is a faded blue paper stamp on the left top edge, and a faded green paper stamp on the right edge. The front edge is engraved in black, “J. Huerth.” The left edge has a faded color paper label with an umpire, a catcher and a batter and the legend “G.B.B.B.C.” in red type. The bottom of the box has a white paper label with a notice from the factory. There is some water staining on the bottom, and light gray graphite pencil inscription of numbers. The interior of the lid has a color illustration of an umpire, a catcher, and a batter with a stadium background, and the legend “Green Bay Base Ball Club” in red type across the top in the white border. Across the bottom is the legend “Warranted Hand Made” in red type in the white border. There is a black printed seal on the lower right of the illustration for “John Huerth Green-Bay”. Below the hinge is a white paper label with the legend “J. Huerth, Green Bay, Wi.” in red type.
