Holiday Auction Closing December 7 ,2019

The 1998 World Series featured a mismatch for the ages with the New York Yankees setting a regular season record of 114 wins facing off against the San Diego Padres coming off an upset of the Atlanta Braves. The Yankees would sweep the Padres in four games and finish off one of the best seasons in the history of the franchise leaving future Hall of Famers Tony Gwynn and Trevor Hoffman empty handed in their last chance at World Series glory.
This lot consists of a pair of World Series baseballs from the collection of Willie Randolph. One of the balls consists of the Padres team members and has a total of 32 signatures including Tony Gwynn, Trevor Hoffman, Jim Leyritz, Ken Caminiti (deceased), along with future Hall of Fame manager Bruce Bochy and the signatures have faded due to being on display. The second baseball features 30 signatures of the World Champion New York Yankees and includes Derek Jeter, Mariano Rivera, Joe Torre, Jorge Posada, Andy Pettitte, Paul O’Neill, Tim Raines, Bernie Williams and Tino Martinez. The ball does have toning, but the signatures display boldly. The baseballs originate for the collection of Willie Randolph who was coaching during the 198 World Series and come pre-certified by Beckett Authentication.
