Great sepia tone publicity shot from the 1931 World Series. Taken in Shibe Park, the photo shows Hall of Famers Babe Ruth, John McGraw, Connie Mack and Gabby Street posing with former pitcher and Senators clown Nick Altrock and super-agent Christy Walsh. Since it is taken before the Cardinals-Athletics series, only catcher Gabby Street appears in uniform, all others appear in street clothes (Mack, manager of the Athletics of course always wore his trademark black suit during games).
Agent Christy Walsh often arranged for Ruth and McGraw to write syndicated columns covering the World Series and this is most likely a publicity shot he commissioned to mark the occasion. The photograph is crystal-clear with scattered equipment around the players and Mickey Cochrane can be seen reclining in the dugout. Ruth, Street, Walsh, Mack, Altrock and McGraw have signed below their images in bold black fountain pen. The bottom bears the inscription “To Zeb Terry - big leaguer!” and the year “1931”. Terry was a former major leaguer that played for the Cubs, White Sox, and Pirates. Neatly matted in a thick ivory matte and ready for framing. A beautiful photo bearing the signatures of four legendary Hall of Famers and the game’s first super-agent. Letter of Authenticity (cert. K43377) from PSA/DNA.
