The early 1930’s was a successful time for the Chicago Cubs. While the team finished in third place in 1931, they still won 84 games. In 1932, the Chicago Cubs returned for the World Series for the second time in less than five seasons after finishing four games ahead of the Pittsburgh Pirates in the National League. Rogers Hornsby and Charlie Grimm split player-manager duties, leading the Cubs to 90 wins on two fronts. Had the Cy Young award existed in ’32, ace pitcher Lon Warneke surely would have taken the honors after finishing with a record of 22-6 and a 2.37 ERA. Only the mighty New York Yankees with Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig prevented the Cubs from immortality.

This offered baseball has been signed by 12 members of the 1931 and 1932 squads. All of the signatures have been penned with a steel-tipped fountain pen that has been beautifully preserved with a coating of shellac. Hall of Famers Rogers Hornsby, Ray Schalk, Kiki Cuyler, Gabby Hartnett and Billy Herman have all signed this ball. The other signatures include Pat Malone, Charlie Root, Zack Taylor, Charlie Grimm, Jackie May, Guy Bush and Woody English. This baseball also has some artwork with a baseball diamond colored on a side panel in green and brown and another panel having a picture of a cub on a platform with an American flag and a blue pennant with the inscription “NATIONAL LEAGUE AT CHICAGO IL U.S.A.” An additional inscription is written vertically on the sweet spot that reads “1931 WRIGLEY FIELD CLARK AND ADDISON ST”. This baseball comes with a LOA from JSA (Z55998).
