On July 20, 1969, Neil Armstrong and Apollo 11 Lunar Module pilot Buzz Aldrin became the first people to land on the Moon, and the next day they spent two and a half hours outside the spacecraft while Michael Collins remained in lunar orbit in the mission's command module. When Armstrong stepped onto the lunar surface, he famously said: "That's one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind." Along with Collins and Aldrin, Armstrong was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by President Richard Nixon.
This vintage silver case has been engraved with the name Neil Armstrong and dated July 20, 1969, the date of the moon landing. The case also has a photo of a young Armstrong along with an engraved signature and appears to be completely in its original condition. It is unknown if this case was presented to Armstrong by NASA or from another source as it is possibly a unique. The case has minor scratches consistent with its age and features a wooden box inside similar to that of a cigar box or cigarette holder. The case remains in its original unaltered condition and is a very rare souvenir form the early days of space exploration.
