They were simply known as “The Bash Brothers”. Sluggers Mark McGwire and Jose Canseco revitalized the Oakland A’s during the late 1980’s with their home run prowess. Canseco was the 1986 AL Rookie of the Year and 1988 AL MVP, while McGwire was the 1987 AL Rookie of the Year. Offered here are three game use and/or signed items from McGwire and Canseco. The first item is a Rawlings 256B model bat that was used by Mark McGwire during his Rookie of the Year 1987 season. This bat displays light game use with some ball marks and cleat imprints present on the barrel. The model number “256B” is stamped on the knob and McGwire’s number “25” has been handwritten in black marker on the top barrel. McGwire has signed his name in black marker on the barrel. This bat comes with a LOA from PSA/DNA (1B18205) for the game use and a LOA from Steve Grad for the signature.
The next two items in this lot are a game use Oakland A’s helmet and signed bat from Jose Canseco. The A’s helmet was manufactured by American Baseball Company (ABC) and is dark green with a yellow brim. An “A’s” decal in white is affixed to the front and “33” in white is adhered to the back. The interior padding is mostly intact with the back head pad loose, but included with the helmet. This helmet displays solid game use and Canseco has signed this helmet in black marker on the yellow brim. This helmet comes with a LOA from JT Sports for the game use and a LOA from Steve Grad of Beckett Authentication (A25441) for his signature. The last item is a Jose Canseco retail model Worth bat dated to 1993-95. Canseco has signed this bat in black marker on the barrel. This bat comes with LOA from PSA/DNA (1B18204) for the retail model classification and a LOA from Steve Grad of Beckett Authentication for his signature.
