For the last time in his historic career, Hall of Famer Mariano Rivera took the mound at Yankee Stadium on September 26, 2013 against the visiting Tampa Bay Rays. In typical Mariano fashion, he shut down the Rays for an inning and a third, not allowing a hit or walk. Manager Joe Girardi sent longtime teammates Derek Jeter and Andy Pettitte to the mound to take the ball from the greatest closer this game has ever seen.

With the capacity crowd at Yankee stadium on their feet and the realization his career was now over, Rivera left the mound in tears. It was a poignant moment for a franchise that has had more than their share over the years. Now, imagine having to be the pitcher that has to follow that scene. Enter 31-year-old righty Matt Daley. To his credit, Daley came into the game to pitch to Ben Zobrist and promptly struck him out on three pitches.

Offered here is the very hat that Matt Daley wore when he took the mound following the emotional exit of the Sandman Mariano Rivera. This navy New York Yankees New Era 59Fifty cap is a size 7 and features the iconic interlocking “NY” embroidered in white on the front. A commemorative “MARIANO RIVERA NEW YORK YANKEES 1995 2013” patch is sewn on the left side and the MLB logo patch is embroidered on the back. Daley’s number “40” is handwritten in black marker on the inside left crown. A wonderful item celebrating the last game of the great Mariano Rivera. This cap comes with an MLB Authenticated hologram (EK809676) and LOA from Steiner Sports (200360) for the game use.
