Offered is a Mickey Mantle signature on a blackand white newspaper wire service photograph of the New York Yankees centerfielder giving batting tips to a young boy. Mantle has signed his name in blue marker across the lower left of the 6 x 9-inch photo, where he is captured in a dark suit and tie at a United Air Lines terminal. The young boy is holding a baseball bat with Mantle. Note the cowboy boots on the boy! On the back of the photo are editorial notes in black graphite pencil and blue crayon, and a blue stamp with the date “Dec 24 1956”. A newspaper caption has been glued on the back of the photo, reading “Jimmy Fox, who was tipped off in advance, showed up with baseball bat at Portland airport Monday to get batting tips from Mickey Mantle, batting star of New York Yankees. Mantle stopped en route home for Christmas.” Mantle won the Triple Crown in 1956, when he led the Major Leagues in batting average (.353), home runs (52), and runs batted in (RBI) (130). He later wrote a book (My Favorite Summer 1956) about his best year in baseball. This item comes with a LOA from PSA/DNA (AG05521) for the signature.
