Offered is a Keith Haring signature on a vintage poster for an October 1982 exhibit of his work. Haring has signed his name in black marker in the lower center of a 17 x 24-inch color poster featuring a photograph of Haring in red t-shirt and blue jeans posed in front of his massive sculpture of a walking figure. The poster bears the legend “Keith Haring” in red type on white background across the bottom, and two New York City gallery locations for the exhibit. Haring's work grew to popularity from his spontaneous drawings in the New York City subways, including chalk outlines of figures, dogs, and other stylized images on blank black advertising-space backgrounds. After public recognition he created larger scale works, such as colorful murals and sculptures, many of them commissioned. The offered poster is from one of the first public exhibits of his paintings in October 1982 at the Tony Shafrazi Gallery in New York, and his sculptures at New York’s Leo Castelli Gallery. This item comes with a full LOA from JSA (BB36720).
