Offered is a six-page sheet music pamphlet honoring “The Temple Cup” winners of 1894, the New York Giants. Led by Amos Rusie, John Ward and George Davis, the Giants swept the Baltimore Orioles (winners of the full season pennant), in four straight games to win the first ever Temple Cup. In winning the Cup, the Giants were honored with the dedication of this new musical composition of “The Two-Step March” in their honor, made nationally famous by “as played by the Sousa’s Peerless band.” The covers main focus is the photo of that 1894 Giants team, with their names printed in a text below that is printed in unbelievably small lettering, even under magnification. However, all the team is listed including the three HOF players above and HOFer Roger Connor, who is shown as being “released.” This pamphlet also has an ad of the back page for “The Phoenix Music Co, of Newark, NJ.” These pamphlets were likely distributed as ads for various businesses that either gave away or sold these music sheets. The fragile 4 3/8” x 5 5/8” music sheet is complete separated, with several small tears and some staining. There is a vertical crease and small horizontal team on the front page, but does not intersect with the team image. All Temple cup memorabilia is in great demand as it was the first “World Series” type championship played, but it only last four seasons. This is an extremely rare item from the Temple Cup era, honoring the first ever winners.
