On November 22, 1963, President Kennedy's open-top 1961 Lincoln Continental four-door convertible limousine entered Dealay Plaza in Dallas Texas at 12:30 p.m. CST. Kennedy was riding with his wife Jacqueline, Governor John Connally, and Connally's wife when he was fatally shot by former U.S. Marine Lee Harvey Oswald who shot from a nearby building. Governor Connally was seriously wounded in the attack. The motorcade rushed to Parkland Memorial Hospital where President Kennedy was pronounced dead about 30 minutes after the shooting.

With the nation grieving the loss of its youngest ever President, Lyndon Baines Johnson then vice President took over the helm for the remaining year of Kennedy’s elected term.  The funeral was a highly spectated event and took place only three days later in Washington DC on November 25th.  After Jacqueline Kennedy and her brothers-in-laws, Attorney General Robert Kennedy and Massachusetts Democratic Senator Ted Kennedy, visited the rotunda, the coffin was carried out onto the caisson.  At the White House, the procession resumed on foot for roughly 0.9 miles (1.4 km) to St. Matthew's Cathedral, led by Jacqueline Kennedy and the late president's brothers, Robert and Edward (Ted) Kennedy. They walked the same route that John F. Kennedy and Jacqueline Kennedy often used when going to Mass at the cathedral. This also marked the first time that a first lady walked in her husband's funeral procession. The two Kennedy children rode in a limousine behind their mother and uncles.

In memorandum of the assassinated President, his brother Robert Kennedy later had beautiful blue and white Baccarat Crystal featuring the likeness of John F. Kennedy crafted and distributed to personal friends and business associates.  The elegant Baccarat Crystal comes in its original box with a business card signed by then United States Attorney General Robert Kennedy.  This item once belonged White House barber Steve Martini and the card is inscribed, “To Steve Martini, Many Thanks” and the signature and inscription have been authenticated and graded a perfect 10 by Beckett Authentication, who have provided a LOA.   Additionally, the item was featured in the Ponte Verda local newspaper who did a nice cover write up on the collection of White House Barber Steve Martini.  The piece comes with a copy of the newspaper as well as a letter of provenance from Steve Martini Jr.
