It’s easy to forget just how dominating Dwight Gooden was in the first few seasons in the majors. Debuting in 1984, the 19-year-old phenom won 17 games, including 8 of his last 9 starts. He led the NL in strikeouts, earning him the nickname “Dr, K” which he would be known by for the rest of his career. He set the record for strikeouts per 9 innings (11.39) and set another when he amassed 43 strikeouts in 3 starts. He was voted the league’s Rookie of the Year and his performance reinvigorated Mets fans as the team began to show signs of being a pennant contender once again. Gooden’s rookie season Louisville Slugger W276 model bat shows good game use. The barrel displays several ball marks and scuffs with abrasions from contact with other equipment. Bat rack paint streaks are present and Gooden’s number “16” is handwritten on the knob end. A very attractive Gooden rookie gamer when he was the best pitcher in the game and the NL’s Rookie of the Year. This bat comes with a LOA from PSA/DNA (1B18646) for the game use.
