Jose Nasazzi, the captain and star defender of the Uruguayan National Soccer Team, was presented this medal by the Order of Don Bosco to honor his magnificent performance in the 1924 Paris Summer Olympics. Nasazzi led the Uruguayans to a historic gold medal victory, triumphing over a resolute Switzerland team 3-0 in France. The Bella Vista and Nacional player captained Uruguay to the 1930 FIFA World Cup title and, along with Obdulio Varela, is one of Uruguay’s greatest ever players.
This medal is silver, with a high-relief man on a horse etched on the front. An enameled flag of Uruguay is present on the lower portion of the coin, and “Con Libertad Ni Ofendo Ni Temo” is etched in high relief around the border. Etched in high relief on the back of the coin is “Obra de D. Bosco” and an open book resting on branches. Etched on the pages of the book is “Jose Nasazzi / 1924”. This historic medal is in good condition.
