1950 FIFA World Cup hero Alcides Ghiggia was presented with this World Cup winner’s medal made by Nobel Valenti. Ghiggia scored the winning goal of the final match in the 79th minute against Brazil, giving Uruguay the slimmest of winning margins in their 2-1 victory at Rio de Janeiro’s Estadio Maracana. Ghiggia scored four goals for Uruguay in the 1950 World Cup, the second highest tally on the team behind Oscar Omar Miguez’s five goals. This offered medal has an image of a soccer player, Rio’s Maracana, and “Copa Do Mundo 1950” etched on the front in high relief. The back of the medal is etched with “Uruguay Campeon Brasil 1950”, “Alcides Ghiggia”, and “Album ‘Goles Dobles’” in high relief. This medal is in excellent condition.
