Signed by the Los Angeles Dodgers as an amateur free agent, Hall of Fame pitcher Pedro Martinez worked his way to the Majors and made his debut in September of 1992. Following his official rookie season of 1993, where he posted a 10-5 record with a 2.61 ERA, Martinez was traded by the Dodgers to the Montreal Expos for Delino DeShields. Martinez would spend the next four seasons in Montreal, where compiled a 55-33 record with a 3.06 ERA and was the 1997 National League Cy Young Award winner – his first of three Cy Young’s.

In 1997, Martínez posted a 17–8 record for the Expos, and led the league in half a dozen pitching categories, including a 1.90 ERA, 305 strikeouts and 13 complete games pitched, while becoming the only Expo ever to win the National League Cy Young Award. The 13 complete games were tied for the second-highest single-season total in the modern era of baseball since Martínez's career began (Curt Schilling had 15 in 1998; Chuck Finley and Jack McDowell also reached 13 in a year). However, this 1997 total is by far the highest in Martínez's career, as he only completed more than 5 games in one other season (7, in 2000). Martínez was the first right-handed pitcher to reach 300 strikeouts with an ERA under 2.00 since Walter Johnson in 1912.

Designed in Expos’ colors, this glove was made of Rawlings top-grade, blue-tanned “Heart of the Hide” steerhide bound with red tanned rawhide laces and nylon stitching. The glove displays outstanding game use with noticeable wear in the pocket, web facing and throughout the rest of the body. This glove has a fleece-lined wrist strap that displays appropriate matting. There is an apparent photomatch of the glove to August 14, 1997 in which the same style glove is worn by Pedro and the "R" in Rawlings shows a similar crease, however this couldn't be conclusively matched.  1997 was the first Cy Young season in the brilliant career of Pedro Martinez.

This size 11.5 glove has a “Modified T-Web” webbing and a “Deer Tanned Cowhide palm and the “Gold Glove Series” labeling is stamped on the back of the hand. The Rawlings label is on the top of the wrist strap and the Rawlings circle “R” logo is on the back of the thumb. “Pedro Martinez” is embroidered in red along the outside of the thumb and the Hall of Famer has signed his name in black marker on the outside ring finger. This is a tremendous earlier career glove from one of the best pitchers in baseball history and it comes with a LOA from PSA/DNA (1G00595) for the game use and a LOA from Beckett Authentication, who have graded the signature a GEM MT 10. The side by side comparison photographs in the listings are for illustrative purposes only and not included with the glove, but these can be printed and included upon request.
