Offered is a signature from American aviation pioneer Orville Wright, on a handwritten personal check dated April 9, 1923, in a framed display. Wright has signed his name in black pen in the lower right of the check from the City National Bank of Dayton, Ohio, made payable to Katherine Wright for $391.52. Orville Wright has inscribed the date, the payee, and the amount in black pen on the 3 ½ x 7-inch white paper check. There is a red stamp at the lower right of the check with the amount paid, and a blue pen check mark at the right margin, as well as a pink watermark of clock tower at the center. The signed and inscribed check is mounted in a blue matte below an 8 ½ x 11-inch black and white photograph of Wright and his brother alongside the Wright Flyer on the beach near Kitty Hawk, North Carolina. The photo and check are displayed in a 17 x 19-inch black wood and glass frame. Orville and his brother Wilbur are credited with inventing, building, and flying the world's first successful motor-operated airplane. They made the first controlled, sustained flight of a powered, heavier-than-air aircraft with the Wright Flyer on December 17, 1903, four miles south of Kitty Hawk.
