Presented is a 1934 Detroit Lions team-signed hardcover book, “Pro Football: It’s Ups and Downs” by Doctor Harry A. March, “The Professor of Football.” The Lions played their first season in the National Football League in 1934. Each of the players has inscribed their college’s name after their signature, in black pen, on the inside front cover and the fly leaf. Among the notable signatures and inscriptions are Hall of Famer Dutch Clark (Colorado), Chester Chapman, John Schneller, Charles Diehl, Lewis Reiss, Robert Rowe, Ernest Caddell, Charles Bernard, Foster Howell, Granville Mitchell and Glenn Presnell. The 1934 Lions finished 10-3 in their debut season, and a year later won their first NFL championship. The flyleaf is decorated with a blue, gray and white Detroit Lions logo patch glued on the bottom third, and “1934” inscribed in blue pen below the logo. The book is accompanied by a white 8 ½ x 11-inch sheet folded in half with typewritten notes about each Lions player, and a summary of the season. The front cover of the book, which was published without a dustjacket in 1934, has blue buckram covers and the title embossed in gold. This item comes with a LOA from Beckett Authentication.
