Here's a six-sided shipping container – constructed of rectangular, corrugated cardboard – that was originally deployed to transport "the stuff that dreams are made of" to eager consumers. The container's exterior absorbed the lion's share of wear and tear that would otherwise have acted to the detriment of its contents (twelve factory-fresh wax boxes of 1986/87 Fleer Basketball cards), but it has survived in credible shape. The box was opened at the top, and the panels remain attached. Red-printed information to identify the contents, handwritten shipping and delivery notes and vintage clear-tape stains all contribute to the visual chronicle of its travels. And, the observer's thoughts never stray far from the idea that this humble box once incubated double-digit quantities of Rookie Cards picturing Michael Jordan, as well as other stars. On the basis of the 1986/87 Fleer issue's ongoing contributions to the popularity of the NBA, a strong argument could be made that this special case deserves its own shelf in the Basketball Hall of Fame! At the time of its creation, the container was twelve times more scarce than the release's attractive display boxes, and precious few of these have endured the passing of nearly 35 years since then. This item is a bonafide rarity associated with a classic production ... and the ultimate conversation piece!
