A .288 career hitter, former Cincinnati Reds and New York Yankees outfielder Paul O’Neill topped the .300 mark in six different seasons including an AL leading .359 in the strike shortened season of 1994. This Louisville Slugger signature model C243 was issued during the 1993-1997 labeling period and displays extremely heavy use with multiple ball marks, stitch impressions, black and blue ink transfers and a choppy battering of cleat marks on the left barrel (O’Neill was known to bang his bats on his shoes in moments of displeasure). O’Neill taped the handle in a criss-cross pattern running 17.5 inches up the handle and heavily wrapped at the knob. A light coat of pine tar is also evident on the handle. O’Neill signed the bat between the label and the barrel branding in black marker but it appears he continued to use the bat after signing it, as the fading signature overlapped with ball marks and ink transfers. Contains dual PSA/DNA authentication stickers for the bat (#1B00397) and signature (#U69437) affixed to the barrel and comes with full PSA/DNA letter of authenticity.
