Presented here is a program and partially scored scorecard from the 1949 World Series between the New York Yankees and Brooklyn Dodgers. The Yankees and Dodgers were two of the best teams in baseball during the immediate post-war era, meeting numerous times in the World Series before the Dodgers moved to the West Coast. The Yankees won this edition of the Fall Classic in five games, although the series was closer than it appeared. Only one game, the decisive fifth matchup, was decided by more than one run. The Dodgers and the Yankees split the first two games at Yankee Stadium, which both finished 1-0. The final game, the only one that could be considered a blowout, finished 10-6 Yankees thanks to Jerry Coleman’s three RBI day and Joe DiMaggio’s home run. Based on the scoring of this program, it appears this was from Game 1.
The front of the program features the Yankees’ logo on a blue background on the top and the Dodgers’ logo on the bottom with a red background, each wearing a crown bearing the titles “American League Champions” and “National League Champions”. The back cover features an ad for Lucky Strike Cigarettes. The scorecard says “YANKEE STADIUM” on the front. This program is in good overall condition, displaying only minor edge wear on the spine and corner wear.
