Louisville Slugger took the unusual step of retiring the P72 model bat in honor of Jeter at the end of the 2014 season, Jeter’s final season of Major League Baseball as a player. According to Louisville Slugger, in his 20 MLB seasons Jeter ordered more than 2,500 P72 model Louisville Slugger bats. The specifications of the P72, with its medium barrel and balanced swing weight, still exist for players to order, but under a new model name, the DJ2 in recognition of Jeter.
