Offered is the signature of boxing legend Gene Tunney on a transfer with stock certificate for 100 shares of the Hudson & Manhattan Railroad. The former world heavyweight boxing champion (1926-1928) has signed his name in black pen on a 6½ x 8-inch white paper cut transfer certificate dated May 20, 1935, transferring 100 shares of common stock in the Hudson & Manhattan Railroad Company. The 8½ x 12-inch stock certificate is printed in red and black on white parchment-style paper and dated December 21, 1934. Tunney defeated Jack Dempsey twice, first in 1926 and then in 1927, with his successful title defense against Dempsey remaining one of the most famous bouts in boxing history known as “The Long Count Fight”. He retired undefeated as a heavyweight after his victory over Tom Healey in 1928, after which Tunney was named Fighter of the Year by The Ring magazine. This item comes with a LOA from Beckett Authentication.
