Offered is a collection of Gene Autry’s Los Angeles/California/Anaheim Angels memorabilia, including pins, Rod Carew postcards, patches and ash trays. Autry, famous as “The Singing Cowboy,” was a singer, songwriter, musician, rodeo performer as well as a film and television actor who gained fame beginning in the early 1930s. He was the original owner of the Angels from their founding in 1961 to his death in 1997. The first item in this collection is a 2½ x 8 x 8½-inch ceramic ashtray with a baseball, fielder’s glove and miniature bat sculpted in the center of the glazed ceramic. ON the edges of the square-shaped bowl is the inscription in black, “California Angels – Compliments of – Ft. Lauderdale Baseball School”. The hollow base is inscribed “1981 by Norma” in red. The second item in this collection is a 7-inch glazed white porcelain ashtray with the Angels’ logo “A” with halo in red, blue and gold, and gold baseball stitches. The 1-ich bowl is edged in gold along the lip. Also in this collection are three Gene Autry Chairman of the Board 5 x 7-inch color postcards featuring the Angels owner in uniform, #26, on the field at Angels Stadium in Anaheim. The reverse of the postcard includes a short biographical sketch of Autry, and the statement “Prior to the final game of the ’82 season, October 3, the Angels team, en masse, presented owner Gene Autry with uniform No. 26 – symbolic of the 26th man on the club – in a display of affection toward the chairman of the board.”  This collection includes two “Honorary Croix de Candlestick” pins on 4¼ x 6¼-inch laminated postcards welcoming fans to Candlestick Park in San Francisco for the 1984 MLB All-Star Game. The 1½-inch black, gray and gold pin has the image of former San Francisco Giants pitcher Stu Miller, who was called for a balk when a “particularly fierce gust of wind blew him off the mound” during the 1961 MLB All-Star Game at Candlestick Park. This collection also includes six 3½ x 5½-inch color postcards featuring a head & shoulder photograph of California Angels All-Star infielder Rod Carew, from the 1983 season. There are also seven 3½ x 5½-inch color postcards featuring a head & shoulder photograph of California Angels All-Star second baseman Bobby Grich, from the 1983 season. This collection includes two embroidered cloth patches, a 2 x 2½-inch red, white and black patch with an interlocking “CA” logo, and a 2¾-inch Angels “25th Anniversary 1961 1985” patch in red, yellow, navy-blue and silver. This collection comes with a LOA from Jackie Autry.
