Many questions surrounded the New York Mets entering the 2019 season. One of the questions that was answered with a resounding affirmative was the emergence of first baseman Peter Alonso. Already touted as the top prospect in the organization, Alonzo endeared himself to the Citi Field faithful by launching home run after home run during his historic National League Rookie of the Year season. Alonso’s 53 home runs not only set a Mets’ franchise record, but also a Major League record for a rookie.
On September 28, 2019, Alonso set the all-time home record for a rookie when he took Atlanta Braves pitcher Mike Foltynewicz deep for his 53rd home run of the season. That home run came in the bottom of the third inning. This offered baseball was used in the inning before Alonso’s home run. This Official Major League Robert D. Manfred, Jr. stamped baseball was used for two pitches – a ball thrown by Foltynewicz to Amed Rosario on the first pitch and a fielder’s choice on the next pitch when Rosario ground into a force play at second. This ball displays excellent game use with abrasion marks and dirt stains. This baseball comes with an MLB Authenticated hologram (JD495761), which authenticates this ball being used during the September 28, 2019 game and the two pitches previously mentioned.
