Offered is a signed check by legendary baseball hero and Hall of Famer Jackie Robinson. The first player to break the color barrier, Robinson was a 1949 NL MVP, a six-time All-Star, and a 1955 World Series Champion. Truly a legend, the MLB universally retired his number “42” in 1997, as well as added a new tradition “Jackie Robinson Day” on April 15th of every season.
Offered here is a check that has been signed by Jackie Robinson and dated April 9, 1969. The check was made out to “Suffolk Drug” for $9.24 and drawn from Robinson’s Freedom National Bank of New York. The check number is 248 and Robinson signed his name in black pen on the signature line, signing it “Jack R. Robinson”. This check has been matted in a blue in a 14 x 28 framed display with a gold image of Robinson above that reads “JACKIE ROBINSON 1947 1997 50th ANNIVERSARY”. Below the check is a typed letter from 1997 signed by Jackie’s widow Rachel Robinson, who states in her letter that “The enclosed bank check was personally signed by my late husband, Jackie Roosevelt Robinson. It has been in the Robinson family archives since the day it was returned by the bank, and I guarantee that it is 100% authentic.” This signed check comes with a LOA from Beckett Authentication (A23709) for Jackie Robinson’s signature and has been graded a MINT 9.
