Graded 40 VG 3 by SGC, one of a mere eight copies validated by that company. Hall of Famer. During the "Roaring ’20’s," Drake’s Cake issued a 64-card set of thin-paper collectibles picturing the era’s top movie stars. Of particular interest to baseball enthusiasts was the release’s inclusion, on card #61, of Yankee superstar Babe Ruth. Ruth had done some "acting," and he was under contract to Universal Pictures at the time. For many years, it wasn't widely known that Ruth was pictured in the sparsely distributed set, so only a small number of examples reside in today's collections. Additionally, the 2-5/8" x 4-1/8" Drake’s cards were printed on fragile stock and, as a consequence, are especially difficult to find in an acceptable state of preservation. The offered item’s cardfront features a crisp portrait likeness of Ruth in his pinstripes, and the reverse bears an advertisement for "Drake’s Cake" as well as promotional text covering both the products and the card series. The card's pleasing overall appearance is undisrupted by a small bump at the top-left corner and a couple of faint and thin streaks of discoloration on the back. A highly desirable and seldom-encountered Babe Ruth specialty card, in Very Good condition.
