Lucky nostalgia buffs—and determined non-sports card collectors—have owned and enjoyed Topps' Gilligan's Island cards from 1965, but few people of either persuasion have ever seen the issue's very scarce display box. This incredible, empty survivor carries a black-and-white likeness of the clueless voyager himself on its lid, along with bright red lettering set against a sky-blue background. Gilligan's face appears on two additional panels, and the Skipper (along with "the Millionaire...and his wife") grace the front side. A splendid design! This extraordinary relic, which measures 8" x 3-3/4" x 1-3/4", advertises that it once contained 24 five-cent packs. The fragile piece concedes several separations, small tears and clear-tape repairs on its lid, but its appearance is wonderfully charming, nonetheless. This is a distinctive and impossibly elusive non-sports showpiece, and it will be an undisputed highlight of a sophisticated collection.
Please note: This lot also includes a pair of wax wrappers.
