The fans crowding into AT&T Park the night of Wednesday, September 26, 2007 would see the climax of one of baseball’s greatest hitters. After 22 years, 2,986 games and a record-setting 762 home runs, Barry Bonds called it a career. The slugger’s last game was against visiting San Diego with Jake Peavy on the mound for the Padres. Bonds came to bat for the first time in the bottom of the first, the crowd roaring their hearts out, knowing this could be the Home Run King’s final game. With two out, Bonds worked the count to 2-and-2 before grounding out to second base to end the inning. Bonds’ next plate appearance came in the bottom of the 4th. With Peavy still on the mound and one away, Bonds uncharacteristically swung at the first pitch, hitting a weak grounder in the dirt back to Peavy.

By the time Bonds came to bat for the third, and last time in his career, the game had gotten out of hand with San Diego up 9-2. Now with two away in the 6th and Peavy still pitching, Bonds the first two pitches for balls. Then on the third offering from Peavy, Bonds unleashed his feared home run swing and sent a ball screaming into deep right center. The crowd of 43,000 stood up as one as the ball approached the outfield wall. But the wind was not in Bonds’ favor that September night and Brian Giles made the catch, ending the inning. This would prove to be Barry Bonds’ final career at-bat, and this is the bat he used during that last game.

The SSK Professional Edge model bat has been photo matched to Bonds’ final career game and shows excellent game use and is un-cracked. There are several prominent ball marks on the barrel along with bat rack paint streaks and abrasions from contact with other equipment. The knob and handle have been taped in typical Barry Bonds fashion in black adhesive to enhance the grip and a crisscross pattern of white tape is present on the upper handle. The cupped barrel end shows scuffs from contact with ground and the Home Run King has signed the barrel in strong, contrasting silver pen completing this career-ending game. The bat has been authenticating by Barry Bonds himself and his personal hologram sticker is present on the center brand. A museum-worthy bat used by the man whose name sits at the top of sport’s most hallowed record. This bat comes with a COA from Barry Bonds for the game use and signature and a LOA from PSA/DNA (1B18423) for the game use, who have photo matched this bat to Bonds’ final game on September 26, 2007 and has been graded a perfect GU 10.
