Offered here is the catcher’s mitt worn by Sherm Lollar circa 1948 with the New York Yankees. Lollar played in 22 games as the backup for Gus Niarhos. This glove displays outstanding game use. “Lombardi” is stamped on the palm side towards the outer fingers. The glove has heavy padding on the outsides and a single lace webbing. The back of this glove has a wrist strap that is tied together by laces. “CIHOCKI” is handwritten in red marker on the outer thumb as the glove was given to Lollar by Cihocki, who was a catcher on the 1945 Indians and spent 1949 and 1950 with the Baltimore Orioles, who were the AAA affiliate of the St. Louis Browns where Lollar spent those two seasons playing for. Most likely this glove could have been given to Lollar by Cihocki during one of those spring trainings. Also on the thumb is imprinted “LICENSED UNDER PAT. NO 2231204”. This glove comes with a LOA from PSA/DNA (1G00631) for the game use and a LOA from Al Cihocki, who attests that this glove was worn by Sherm Lollar.
