Presented is a handwritten inscription and signature from Mark Messier, the legendary National Hockey League center who played for a quarter of a century in the league (1979-2004) with the Edmonton Oilers, New York Rangers and Vancouver Canucks. Messier has signed his name in silver marker and inscribed “94 Cup” below his signature in the lower left of the 16 x 20-inch black and white photograph of the Rangers star on the ice during warmups. Above his signature, at the left side of the photo, the two-time Hart Memorial Trophy winner has inscribed, in silver marker, the following: “Going into Game Six against the NJ Devils, we had lost all the momentum in the series. Defeat meant elimination and the end of our dreams. The gaurantee (sic) was my effort to instill the same confidence in the team that we had displayed all year. I knew we were good enough to win Game Six, the series, and the Stanley Cup. I wanted my teammates to know I believed in them and that we would prevail.” The Messier inscription, signature and photo are mounted in a gray matte with white border and displayed in a 22½ x 26½ -inch black plastic and glass frame. There are slight wear marks in the upper center of the frame, and a small discoloration on the glass in the upper right corner. This item comes with a COA from Steiner Sports (SS050894).
