The Indianapolis ABCs were a Negro league baseball team that played both as an independent club and as a charter member of the first Negro National League (NNL). They claimed the western championship of black baseball in 1915 and 1916, and finished second in the 1922 NNL. Among their best players were Baseball Hall of Fame members Oscar Charleston, Biz Mackey, and Ben Taylor.
Offered here is a collection of financial ledger documents from the Negro League’s Indianapolis ABCs dating to 1920-1922. There are 45 sheets with pencil and ink and feature ledger numbers, meeting notes and lineups from games. It appears that these documents were integral to the ABC club in regards to their record keeping, payroll and expenses, and are truly a rare baseball artifact that could have an incredible break up value or should be kept together as a historical relic. These papers display toning and age wear, along with other staining and edge marks. A great collection from the Negro Leagues of the early 20th century.
