For the first month and a half of the 2008 season you couldn’t get Albert Pujols out. The St. Louis Cardinals’ first baseman hit safely in 42 straight games. He went on to hit his 300th career home run in June and at the end of the year, finished with 100-plus RBI - making him the first player in history to knock in 100 or more runs in his first eight seasons. When it was all over, Pujols won his second NL MVP Award and his work outside the ballpark made him the 2008 recipient of the Roberto Clemente Award.

Following the September 7th, 2008 game between the Cardinals and Florida Marlins, Albert Pujols gave this jersey he wore off his back to one lucky fan as part of the “Jersey Off Our Backs” promotion. In that game, Pujols connected on his 32nd home run of the 2008 season, a two-run shot in the first inning off of Marlins’ pitcher Josh Johnson in the Cardinals’ 3-1 victory. This jersey has the classic “Cardinals” with bat and two birds’ logo sewn on across the chest in red, navy and gold chenille stitching. Pujols’ number “5” is sewn on below in red and navy tackle twill. The Majestic tag is screen-printed on the bottom front left tail and the back of the jersey has “PUJOLS” and “5” sewn on in red and navy tackle twill, along with the MLB logo patch. Pujols has signed his name in black marker on the “5”. This jersey displays moderate game use and comes with a letter of provenance from Seth Potsick, the recipient of the “Jersey Off Our Back” jersey from Pujols, who provides a written statement, a ticket stub from the game, the scratch-off ticket that won him the jersey, the number “5” paper and a photo of him shaking hands with Pujols on the Busch Stadium field with the number “5” paper. Additionally, there is a LOA from Sports Investors Authentication for the game use and a LOA from PSA/DNA (AD03366) for Pujols’ signature.
