To celebrate the NBA’s Golden Anniversary season in 1996, the league’s 50 Greatest Players were unveiled, as selected by a panel of former players, coaches, current and former GMs, executives and members of the media. When this list was created, before the 1996-97 season, the 50 honored players had accumulated 107 NBA Championships, 49 Most Valuable Player Awards, 17 Rookie of the Year honors, 447 All-Star Game selections, 36 scoring titles, 923,791 total points and 410,327 total rebounds.
All of the living players at that time were honored with a ceremony, with the exception of Pete Maravich, who passed away in 1988. This offered complete set of four “National Basketball Association at 50” multi-signed basketballs has the 49 signatures of NBA’s 50 Greatest Players and all are Basketball Hall of Famers, NBA Champions, and All-Stars including Magic Johnson, Larry Bird, Julius Erving, George Gervin, Bill Russell and Wilt Chamberlain. The four-ball set includes the signatures of 49 of the individuals selected as the 50 Greatest Players in NBA History by the aforementioned select panel for the NBA’s Golden Anniversary season in 1996-97. The only signature missing from this set is that of the late Pete Maravich.
The first multi-signed basketball in this set is a Spalding Official NBA Indoor/Outdoor David J. Stern basketball with 14 signatures in black marker that includes Jerry West, Bill Walton, Jerry Lucas, Bill Cunningham, Magic Johnson, Wes Unseld, Dave Bing, Earl Monroe, John Stockton, John Havlicek, Karl Malone, Scottie Pippen, Willis Reed and Julius “Dr. J.” Erving. This item comes with a LOA from PSA/DNA (E47701).
The second multi-signed basketball is a Wilson Microfiber Composite Evolution basketball with eight signatures in black marker and includes Michael Jordan, Dave Cowens, David Robinson, Patrick Ewing, Hakeem Olajuwon, Charles Barkley, Clyde Drexler, and Larry Bird. This item comes with a LOA from PSA/DNA (E47744) and a STICKER ONLY from Upper Deck Authenticated (BAJ46542).
The third basketball in this set is a Spalding Official NBA Indoor/Outdoor basketball with 14 signatures in black marker which includes Bill Russell, Wilt Chamberlain, Shaquille O'Neal, Lenny Wilkens, Nate Thurmond, Elgin Baylor, Paul Arizin, Sam Jones, Dolph Schayes, Bob Pettit, Hal Greer, George Mikan, James Worthy, and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. This item comes with a LOA from PSA/DNA (E47673).
The final basketball in this one-of-a-kind lot is a Spalding Official NBA David J. Stern game ball with 13 signatures in black marker and includes Bob Cousy, Isiah Thomas, Dave Debusschere, Nate Archibald, Walt Frazier, Elvin Hayes, George Gervin, Bill Sharman, Kevin McHale, Moses Malone, Rick Barry, Oscar Robertson and Robert Parish. This item comes with a LOA from PSA/DNA (E47664). A truly remarkable collection of signatures from the greatest collection of basketball talent at the turn of the 21st century.
