These official color photographs date to 1985, and feature personnel associated with the STS-51-G mission, the 18th flight of the agency's Space Shuttle program. Several images have been signed in ink by their astronaut subjects as crew members. Notable signatures include those of Sultan bin Salman Al Saud, a payload specialist and Saudi Arabian national who became the first member of royalty to travel in space. (Salman also made history as the first Arab, and the first Muslim, to venture beyond Earth's atmosphere.) Other signatures among the depictions include those of Commanding Officer Capt. Daniel C. Brandenstein and Patrick Baudry, a crew member and officer in the French Air Force. This group stands as a panoply of significant images, collectively recalling a key mission in the ongoing timeline of American space endeavors.
