Presented is a 1930 Red Ruffing signed New York Yankees payroll check, which also features the signatures of Yankees business manager Ed Barrow and owner Jacob Ruppert. The Hall of Fame New York Yankees pitcher has signed his name “Charles Ruffing,” in black pen on the endorsement line on the back of the white paper check dated June 16, 1930 in the amount of $619.76. The front of the check from the account of “The American League Base Ball Club of New York, Inc.” at Manufacturer’s Trust features black type and red and white stamped text. Barrow has signed his name at the front left margin of the check in black pen, while Ruppert has signed his name in black pen in the front lower right corner. Traded after starting his career with the Boston Red Sox from 1924 to 1930, Ruffing pitched for the Yankees from 1930 to 1942 and again from 1945 to 1946, emerging as their ace in that period. He was a member of six World Series championship teams with the Yankees, and also appeared in six Major League Baseball All-Star Games. Ruffing won 231 games with the Yankees. This mark was the most in franchise history, until Whitey Ford surpassed it in 1965. He remains the winningest right-handed pitcher in Yankees' history. He was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1967. This item has been authenticated and encapsulated by PSA/DNA (84138222) and the signatures are graded Authentic.
