After twice going down in defeat to the Yankees, the Dodgers faced New York again in the 1981 World Series. Rookie phenom Fernando Valenzuela proved to be just the thing the veteran core of Steve Garvey, Ron Cey, Bill Russell, Reggie Smith and Davey Lopes needed to finally earn the World Championship. This stunning example of baseball's ultimate trophy was awarded to the Dodgers' Hall of Fame manager Tom Lasorda. A 7-1/8-inch diameter wooden base features a metallic baseball and gold-plated crown at the platform's center, with New York Yankees and Los Angeles Dodgers press pins displayed at the fore-front. Gold-colored pennants line the perimeter representing each team of both leagues. A gold-colored plaque circles the base reading “LOS ANGELES DODGERS WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP TROPHY Presented by the Commissioner of Baseball October 28, 1981 TOM LASORDA”. This trophy exhibits light overall wear and displays beautifully. A great piece of World Series history from the winner's own Hall of Fame manager. This comes with a signed LOA from Tom Lasorda in which he states “As a token of our friendship, I want you to have my one and only original 1981 World Series Trophy.”
