Pitcher Urban Shocker rejoined the New York Yankees in 1925 after spending seven seasons with the St. Louis Browns. Shocker, who played his first two seasons in 1916 and 1917 with the Yankees, finished his career in the Bronx in his last four seasons from 1925 to 1928. This offered New York Yankees payroll check dates to the historic 1927 season and was made out to Shocker in the amount of $1,194.21.  The check was dated April 26, 1927 and has “The American League Base Ball Club of New York, Inc.” across the top. Shocker signed his name on the back in black pen and the receipt states “Salary Apr. 12th—30th 1482.57” and “Expenses and ad-vance salary as per bill 288.36 1194.21”. The check has also been signed by Ed Barrow. There are punch holes from where the check cleared, but they do not affect Shocker’s signature. This has been authenticated and encapsulated by PSA/DNA (83876747) and also comes with a LOA from JSA.
