The 1986 New York Mets had the best regular season in all of baseball with a 108-54 record. During the NLCS, they faced the pesky Houston Astros, led by National League Cy Young Award winner Mike Scott, who shut New York Down during Game 1 – an Astros 1-0 victory. Scott was on the mound again during Game 4, trying to help Houston even the best-of-seven series at two games apiece. Scott delivered again, holding the Mets to a single run in nine innings as the Astros evened the series with a 3-1 victory at Shea Stadium.

Offered here is the New York Mets official lineup card from Game 4 of the NLCS played on October 12, 1986. The top of this card reads “OFFICIAL BATTING ORDER CLUB NEW YORK” with the date handwritten in blue fine-tipped marker “10/12/86”. The Mets’ starting lineup and reserves were written on this card in the blue fine-tipped marker with “ORIGINAL” reading “Dykstra 8 Backman 4 Hernandez 3 Carter 2 Strawberry 9 Wilson 7 Knight 5 Santana Fernandez 1”. The reserves were listed under the “ALSO ELIGIBLE” column and include “Gooden Darling Ojeda Niemann Orosco Aguilera McDowell Sisk Heep Hearn Elster Mitchell Teufel Johnson Mazzili”. This lineup card has been signed on the “MANAGER’S SIGNATURE” line by Davey Johnson. This comes with a COA from JSA.
