This offered New York Yankees button-down home jersey was worn by gritty player Lou Piniella during the 1975 season. This was the last season the Yankees played their home games at Shea Stadium, as the Bronx Bombers played at Shea during 1974 and 1975 while Yankee Stadium was undergoing a massive renovation project and Piniella played in 74 games during that 1975 season. Piniella’s white with navy pinstriped jersey was made by Wilson and is a size 42. “Piniella” is embroidered in navy on a white patch that is sewn on the inner placket on the inside back collar. The Wilson tag, along with a white Yankees tag that reads “75 Set 2” is sewn on the front left-center tail. The restored interlocking “NY” is sewn on the upper left chest in navy tackle twill. The back of the jersey has Piniella’s “14” sewn on in navy tackle twill. This jersey was originally worn by Piniella and sent down to the Yankees’ AAA farm team in Tacoma, Washington. The original “NY” was removed and replaced with a “TY” for the Tacoma Yankees, which has been restored to its original form with the “TY” removed and replaced with a period-correct “NY” logo in navy tackle twill. The number of the back is original and minor repairs were done to fix where the original stitching had come loose. Please see the detailed “Document of Restoration” letter that accompanies this item. This jersey shows moderate to heavy use and comes with a LOA from Sports Investors Authentication (200611E2) for the game use, plus a LOA from Bill Henderson who restored this jersey.
