Fiery manager Billy Martin led the New York Yankees to back-to-back American League pennants in 1976 and 1977. The Yankees lost to the Big Red Machine Cincinnati Reds in the 1976 World Series and then rebounded to defeat the Los Angeles Dodgers in six games of the 1978 Fall Classic. Offered here is a uniform set worn by Martin in 1976 and 1977.

The home white with navy pinstriped jersey was worn by Martin during the 1977 season. This button-down jersey has a restored interlocking “NY” sewn on the front in navy tackle twill. The back of the jersey has Martin’s number “1” sewn on in navy tackle twill. The Wilson size 42 tag, along with a team strip tag that has “77 1” are sewn on the bottom left-center tail. “Martin” is sewn on a white patch in navy embroidery on the inside back collar. This jersey was originally worn by Martin and sent down to the Yankees’ AAA farm team in Tacoma, Washington. The original “NY” was removed and replaced with a “TY” for the Tacoma Yankees, which has been restored to its original form with the “TY” removed and replaced with a period-correct “NY” logo in navy tackle twill. The number of the back is original and minor repairs were done to fix where the original stitching had come loose. Please see the detailed “Document of Restoration” letter from Bill Henderson that accompanies this item. This jersey shows moderate to heavy use and comes with a LOA from Sports Investors Authentication for the game use.

The matching white with navy pinstriped pants were also manufactured by Wilson and have size 33 waist. These pants display moderate use with some toning due to age. The inside b ack waist has the Wilson tag with “33” embroidered in navy, along with a team strip tag that reads “Martin 1 76 Set 2 22” which indicate the player (manager), uniform number, year, set and inseam. “NATE” is handwritten in red marker diagonally to the left of the Wilson tag. Also handwritten on the inside waist in red is “Schmitz” and “Nate” with “Zeber” written in black marker crossed out in red. This uniform set comes with a LOA from Sports Investors Authentication ((200611E3) for the game use, plus a LOA from Bill Henderson, who restored the jersey.
