LeBron James was the most celebrated high school basketball prospect in history, a preternaturally talented man-child who was expected to dominate professional players as soon as he hit the court. Somehow, LeBron has exceeded the wild expectations originally heaped upon him, winning four NBA Finals and five NBA MVP awards in the first 17 seasons of his career.
LeBron played his high school basketball at St. Vincent-St. Mary in Akron, Ohio where he led the Fighting Irish to three Division III state titles in his four seasons, losing in the state finals in his junior season. So popular were LeBron and his Fighting Irish team, some of their home games were played at nearby University of Akron’s 5,492- seat Rhodes Arena to accommodate the demand for tickets.
Offered here is an 8 x 10-inch color photograph of the St. Vincent-St. Mary High School basketball team from the early 2000’s. The photograph has been matted and framed with the members of the team signing their names on the off-white matte. LeBron James signed his name on the left side in green pen and inscribing “23”. LeBron is pictured (second from the left in the top row) with one of his teammate’s legs on his left shoulder and sporting a big grin. A great exemplar of a high-school version of LeBron’s signature and this entire piece comes with a LOA from Beckett Authentication.
