It was one of the more popular advertising campaigns during Michael Jordan’s tenure as one of the greatest basketball players ever. Nike’s use of “Mars Blackmon”, a fictional character from the 1986 movie “She’s Gotta Have It” portrayed by legendary director and writer Spike Lee, was instrumental in turning sneakers into the money-making items they are today. Playing on Jordan’s extraordinary athletic skills “Mars Blackmon” surmised “It’s gotta be da shoes”, which became the popular tagline for Nike. Offered here is a Nike promotional poster that has been framed and matted to a dimension of 27 ½ x 33 ½ inches. It features the eyes of Spike Lee playing “Mars Blackmon” with his trademark “BROOKLYN” hat and oversized glasses, looking upwards. The caption above the image reads “YES. MARS CONGRATULATIONS TO A TRUE LEGEND”. This piece has been signed by Michael Jordan himself as he penned his name with black marker above the “BROOKLYN” hat and below the “CONGRATULATIONS TO A TRUE LEGEND” tagline. This item comes with a LOA from JSA for Jordan’s signature.
