Pitcher Steve Rogers spent his entire 13-year career (1973 – 1985) mostly as the ace of the Montreal Expos staff. He was selected to the NL All-Star team five times and twice led the NL in shutouts. This jersey is from Rogers’ rookie season. Roger signed his name in blue Sharpie just below the “45” on the button-down jersey’s right front. Above his signature, he further inscribed, “Best Wishes/Rookie Pitcher of the Year.” The front of this Rawlings Action Tailored jersey, size 40, has the red-white-blue tackle-twill “eM” with “expos” stitched below and Roger’s number “45” stitched on the right breast.” On the center reverse, “45” is stitched in tackle-twill blue. Sleeves are trimmed in red and blue piping. The Rawlings woven tag at the collar is red with white lettering. Stitched just below the column of buttons is a white year tag bearing “SET 1/#8P/1973.” Evidence of heavy game use can be found with very sweat and dirt stains across the front, a large brown stain on the lower, back hip, numerous discolored smudges can be found below the “45” on the jersey’s back. A black ink slash crosses the front right shoulder and left sleeve. The white leg of the tackle-twill “eM” is discolored; the blue is shredding and faded. The bottom button is missing. An LOA from game-worn jersey expert, Dave Miedema, accompanies this item.
